#Printisnotdead

Serena Hatfield and Elisaveta Schadrin-Esse co-founded a travel magazine, because the story was never about print. It was about what happens to storytelling when everything gets optimised for clicks. The Fernweh Collective: 10,000+ copies sold, no advertising by design, readers turned into writers. Press: ZEIT Online, ntv, Süddeutsche Zeitung, ARD, WDR, GEO, stern.

Extraordinary travel stories require a suitable space to be told. We see ourselves as a next-generation travel magazine, combining wanderlust with environmental awareness and a reconsideration of our travel habits.

SELFPUBLISHING

Each issue focuses on a single theme and dives in deep. From the vast expanses of the North to magical jungle worlds, life on the road, and the offline life. We take our readers on expeditions into the ice, into rainforests, around campfires, and out on surfboards. In doing so, we don’t just tell stories about places, but above all about the people who live, travel, or dream there: authentically, approachably, with a dash of adventure. Co-creation from the start: Our community has been part of the magazine from the very beginning, from choosing topics to publication. Many articles came directly from our readers, turning the magazine into a true collective. The feedback also shows that our approach resonates: NEON celebrated us as a “fabulous find.” We’ve also broken new ground in distribution: Through Instagram, we’ve built a dedicated community with over 22,000 followers and brought the magazine directly to people who are eager for honest travel stories. At the end of 2017, Serena Hatfield handed the project over to new hands. And the journey continued.
